Portland Public Safety Action Coalition is a private non-profit organization consisting of a Board of Directors and a General Membership.
Membership Q&A
Is PSAC open to the public to participate?
Yes. PSAC holds general meetings, currently the second Tuesday of each month from 930a-11am. These are open to the public and are currently being held virtually via Zoom.
Do I have to be a member of PSAC to participate?
No, not at all. PSAC general meetings are open to anyone in the public as long as they follow our meeting guidelines and keep any and all discussion and ideas respectful and purposeful. One of PSAC’s primary goals is to help educate, inform, and inspire the general public to become involved in their public safety system and help promote respectful and effective public safety advocacy to elected officials and government agency leadership.
How can I find out about general meetings and get on your email list?
PSAC maintains a current “general interest” email list. We use this list to send out meeting reminders, agenda, and currently, zoom invites while we are in a virtual meeting environment. If you would like to have your name and email added to this list please contact us. The PSAC Board will occasionally send general public safety information to this e-mail list for community outreach and awareness. We do not share this list and you may elect to stop receiving our general emails and be deleted from our e-mail list at any time by sending an email to this same email above.
What does it mean to be a PSAC member and how and why should I consider formally joining PSAC?
PSAC transitioned from a City of Portland facilitated and sponsored group and meeting to a community-led, non-profit group in September of 2019. PSAC made this change in format and organizational structure so we could dedicate our time and efforts working on changing the political landscape and becoming much more involved in elections for local elected offices and local and state measures impacting public safety. In this transition to a non-profit, we established a formal Board and decided to require formal membership for individuals wishing to join our organization. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, or recreates in the Portland area. We require the submission of a membership application and new members are voted into the organization by a majority vote of our Board. We require a formal membership process to ensure new members share our goals and values related to Portland’s public safety system and to ensure our membership values respectful dialogue and champions diversity and inclusivity in all our work. We also require members to volunteer for at least one subcommittee with an initial and on-going commitment to participate and contribute to their committee’s work. PSAC membership is comprised of individuals with the time, energy, and desire to roll up their sleeves and donate several hours a month to help support and improve Portland’s public safety system and services and support a safe Portland for everyone.
I’ve attended several general meetings and am interested in learning more about PSAC and possibly applying for membership. What is my next step?
Please contact us. We will follow up with you and go through the next steps and answer any questions you may have.
